Susan Catherine Cork

Bio

I am originally from the United Kingdom (UK) and spent seven years in the UK working in academia, government, industry and private practice after completing my veterinary degree in New Zealand (1987). I  joined the University of Calgary, Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 2008, as founding Head of the Department of Ecosystem and Public Health. Prior to joining the faculty, I spent five years with the New Zealand Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry where I held a number of policy and management positions. My professional interests are in global health, animal health policy, diagnostics, veterinary public health and wildlife diseases. I also have a passion for travel, wildlife conservation, horse riding and photography.

Education

I completed my Veterinary degree, and a B.Phil(vet), in 1987 (Massey University, New Zealand) and returned to complete a PhD at Massey, in 1994. During my PhD I provided diagnostic support for wildlife, in partnership with the New Zealand Department of Conservation. In 1995 I accepted the position of veterinary laboratory manager in Bhutan, this was part of an EU funded project to strengthen veterinary services in Asia. In 2003,  I returned to New Zealand to join the Government Service and obtained a Diploma in Public Policy from the School of Government, Victoria University.
